Germany

Germany sits in central Europe as the biggest economy with cities rebuilt after World War Two, beer gardens, castles along the Rhine, and efficient trains connecting everything. The country reunified in 1990 after the Berlin Wall came down ending Cold War division. It stretches from the North Sea and Baltic down to the Alps bordering nine countries. Two weeks covers highlights from Berlin to Bavaria but you could spend months. English is widely spoken especially in cities. It’s more affordable than France or UK with excellent public transit and clean modern infrastructure. The beer and sausage stereotypes are real but the food scene goes way beyond that now.

Berlin and Munich

Berlin is the capital rebuilt as a creative cultural hub with street art, clubs, and heavy history everywhere. The Berlin Wall remnants, Brandenburg Gate, and Holocaust Memorial anchor the center. Museum Island has world-class collections. Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain neighborhoods bring alternative vibes with Turkish food and techno clubs. The city feels young and gritty still recovering from division. Munich south is the opposite with Bavarian traditions, beer halls, and proximity to Alps. Marienplatz square has the glockenspiel and old town churches. Hofbräuhaus is the massive beer hall with liters and oompah bands. English Garden park is bigger than Central Park with beer gardens and river surfing. Dachau concentration camp memorial outside town confronts Nazi history directly. Neuschwanstein Castle near the Austrian border is the fairy tale Disney castle perched on a cliff.

Rhine Valley and Other Cities

Rhine River valley between Koblenz and Mainz has castle ruins on hilltops and vineyards on slopes. River cruises pass through. Cologne has the Gothic cathedral and relaxed beer culture. Hamburg north is the port city with red light district and maritime history. Dresden rebuilt after firebombing with baroque buildings. The Black Forest southwest has hiking, cuckoo clocks, and traditional villages. The autobahn has sections with no speed limit but trains work better for travelers.

Food is currywurst, schnitzel, bratwurst, pretzels, spätzle noodles, sauerbraten, black forest cake, döner kebabs everywhere, beer obviously, regional wines.
