Tanzania

Tanzania sits in East Africa with incredible wildlife, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Zanzibar beaches. The safari circuit ranks world class with Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. It costs serious money but the animals make it worth it. Two weeks lets you do safari and beach time. The logistics take planning so book ahead with good companies.

Tanzania Northern Safari Circuit

The northern safari circuit draws most visitors for good reason. Serengeti has the great migration and endless plains with lions, elephants, cheetahs, everything you imagine. Ngorongoro Crater is a collapsed volcano with dense wildlife packed inside. You see tons of animals in one day driving the crater floor. Tarangire has huge elephant herds and baobab trees spreading across the landscape. Lake Manyara is smaller but pretty with flamingos. Safari lodges and camps range from budget to luxury tents. Game drives happen early morning and late afternoon when animals move around hunting and grazing. You need a good guide who knows where to find leopards and lions. Book safaris through reputable companies that treat staff well. Budget camping safaris exist but comfort matters on long bumpy drives between parks.

Tanzania Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar

Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest mountain rising above the plains. The Marangu or Machame routes take five to seven days climbing through different climate zones. You need fitness but it’s not technical rock climbing. Altitude sickness challenges most people near the top. Guides and porters carry gear and are required by law. The summit at sunrise shows views across Tanzania and Kenya if clouds clear. Book months ahead because permits sell out. Zanzibar is the beach escape after safari dust gets everywhere. Stone Town has Arab and colonial history with narrow streets and spice markets. The spice tours show cloves, cinnamon, vanilla growing. The beaches on the east coast spread white sand with turquoise water. Nungwi and Paje are the main beach spots. Diving and snorkeling show coral reefs and tropical fish.

Tanzania Food and Travel Costs

Food on safari is whatever the lodge serves with buffet meals. In towns you find ugali maize porridge, nyama choma grilled meat, pilau spiced rice. Zanzibar has fresh seafood and Swahili dishes with coconut and spices mixed in. The food stays simple but fresh. Getting around means domestic flights between safari parks and Zanzibar island. Roads are rough and dusty. Safari vehicles are tough Land Cruisers. Tour companies organize everything because independent travel is hard. Safaris cost money with five hundred dollars per person per day minimum for decent safari with good lodges.
