Mykonos

Mykonos sits in the Cyclades islands in the Aegean Sea as the party destination with whitewashed buildings, windmills, and beach clubs blasting music all day. It’s the most expensive Greek island catering to jet setters, gay travelers, and anyone chasing the scene. The town Chora has narrow marble lanes, blue domed churches, and Little Venice waterfront where waves crash against bars. Summer packs the island with yachts anchoring offshore and clubs charging cover. Three to four days covers the beaches and nightlife but you could stay longer relaxing between parties. Shoulder seasons in May or September bring better prices and fewer crowds but some clubs close.

Chora and Windmills

Chora town center is a maze of whitewashed alleys designed to confuse pirates centuries ago. You get lost constantly which is part of the charm. Bougainvillea spills over walls and cats sleep in doorways. The lanes fill with jewelry shops, boutiques, and galleries selling overpriced art. Little Venice Alefkandra has colorful balconies hanging over the water where people gather for sunset with drinks. The famous windmills on the hill above are the postcard shot everyone takes. Five white windmills stand in a row visible across town. Panagia Paraportiani church near Little Venice is the asymmetrical white church in every Mykonos photo. The port area Chora has ferry terminals and fishing boats mixed with superyachts.

Beach Clubs and Nightlife

Paradise Beach and Super Paradise are the main party beaches with clubs like Tropicana and Jackie O playing house music from noon until late. Sunbeds cost plenty and drinks run expensive but the scene delivers if that’s your thing. Paraga Beach has Scorpios beach club with boho luxury vibes. Psarou Beach attracts celebrities and yachts with Nammos restaurant charging absurd prices. Elia Beach is quieter and gay friendly. Ornos Beach works for families. The clubs in town like Astra and Skandinavian Bar go late with drag shows and dancing. Cavo Paradiso hosts international DJs on the cliffs. Everything costs more than mainland Greece.

Delos and Quieter Spots

Delos island sits 30 minutes by boat as the uninhabited archaeological site where Apollo myths say he was born. The ruins spread across the island with mosaics, temples, and the famous lion statues. Boats leave from Mykonos town morning and return afternoon. Ano Mera village inland has the monastery and tavernas away from party chaos offering cheaper authentic meals.

Food is fresh seafood, Greek salads, moussaka, grilled octopus, kopanisti spicy cheese, louza cured pork, amygdalota almond cookies, cocktails everywhere, overpriced everything.
