Paros is a Greek island in the Cyclades that’s less hyped than Santorini or Mykonos but just as beautiful. White villages, great beaches, traditional island life. It’s big enough to explore but small enough to feel relaxed. Perfect middle ground between party islands and quiet escapes.
Parikia is the main port town with the white cube buildings. The old town has narrow streets and the Panagia Ekatontapiliani church. The waterfront has restaurants and bars. It’s a good base but not the prettiest spot. Naoussa up north is more charming with fishing boats and a better vibe for staying.
The beaches are excellent. Golden Beach on the east has wind for kitesurfing. Kolymbithres has weird rock formations and protected coves. Santa Maria near Naoussa is long sand. Monastiri Beach is quieter. The south beaches are emptier but need transport. You can beach hop easily with a scooter.
The mountain villages are worth exploring. Lefkes in the center is traditional with marble streets. Marpissa and Prodromos are quiet. The countryside is pretty with old windmills and stone walls. It feels more authentic than coastal areas.
Antiparos island is a quick ferry from Parikia. Quieter and smaller. The cave is interesting. The village is charming. Makes a good day trip or overnight. Tom Hanks has a house there if you care about that.
Rent a scooter or car to explore. Buses exist but are limited. Roads are decent. The island is manageable size so nothing takes long. Biking works for shorter distances between beaches.
Food is traditional Greek. Fresh fish, Greek salad, moussaka. Octopus hanging to dry outside tavernas. Prices are reasonable compared to Santorini and Mykonos. Wine from Paros is good.
Best time is May to June or September. July and August get busy and hot.
