Israel

Israel packs more history and diversity into a tiny space than almost anywhere on earth. You’ve got ancient Jerusalem, Tel Aviv beach culture, desert hikes, and the Dead Sea all within a few hours of each other. It’s intense, complicated, and completely worth it.

Jerusalem is the big one and you need at least three days. The Old City is divided into four quarters and each feels like a different world. Western Wall, Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Dome of the Rock. The history hits you hard. Get there early morning to beat crowds and heat. East Jerusalem and the Arab markets are fascinating but bring cash.

Tel Aviv is the total opposite. Beach city, nightlife, amazing food scene. It’s expensive but the vibe is relaxed and fun. Jaffa old port area is beautiful at sunset. The markets like Carmel and Levinsky are great for cheap eats and spices. Beaches are free and packed on weekends.

The Dead Sea is a must even if it feels touristy. Floating is weird and cool. Ein Gedi nearby has hiking and waterfalls. Masada fortress is worth the early morning climb for sunrise. The desert around there is stunning and empty.

Up north, the Golan Heights and Sea of Galilee are green and beautiful. Totally different landscape. Less touristy too. Haifa is underrated with the Bahai Gardens and a more mixed Arab-Jewish population.

Getting around is easy. Buses connect everything and they’re cheap. Sherut shared taxis are faster. Trains run along the coast. Everything shuts down Friday evening to Saturday evening for Shabbat so plan around that.

Money adds up fast. It’s one of the more expensive countries in the region. ATMs everywhere and cards work fine.
