India hits you the second you step outside the airport. The noise, the colors, the smell of street food mixed with incense. It’s a lot, but in the best way possible. I’ve been three times now and I still find new stuff that blows my mind.
The country is huge so pick your spots. First-timers usually do the Golden Triangle: Delhi, Agra, and Jaipur. Makes sense because you get crazy forts, the Taj Mahal, and proper city chaos all in one loop. Takes about a week if you move fast, two if you want to breathe.
Timing matters more here than most places. October to March is when you want to go. It’s cooler and way less humid. Monsoon season from June to September makes some areas beautiful but travel gets messy. Summer heat in April and May is no joke, especially up north.
Getting around is easier than people think. Domestic flights are cheap if you book ahead. Trains are the real experience though. Book sleeper class for long trips and you’ll meet everyone. I always grab snacks at stations because the chai and samosas are amazing. Apps like Uber work great in big cities.
Money stuff is simple now. Most places take cards in cities but carry cash for smaller towns and street food. ATMs are everywhere but grab extra before you head to rural areas. Food is so cheap you’ll feel guilty. A full meal costs less than a coffee back home.
Stay flexible with your plans. Trains run late, roads get blocked, festivals pop up. That’s India. The mess is part of the magic. Just roll with it and you’ll have stories for years.
