Pensacola

Pensacola is a beach town in the Florida Panhandle with white sand and military history. The beaches are some of Florida’s best with sugar white sand. It’s less crowded than other Florida beach towns. The historic downtown has brick streets and old buildings. A long weekend is enough to see everything. It’s affordable compared to other beach destinations.

Pensacola Beach and Gulf Islands

Pensacola Beach on Santa Rosa Island has incredibly white sand that squeaks when you walk. The sand stays cool even in hot sun because of the quartz. The water is emerald green and calm most days. The pier stretches into the Gulf for fishing. Beach bars line the main strip. Gulf Islands National Seashore protects miles of undeveloped beach. Fort Pickens at the west end is a Civil War fort you can explore. The beaches here are quieter with boardwalks over the dunes.

Pensacola Historic Downtown and Naval Air Station

Downtown Pensacola has the historic district with buildings from the 1800s. Palafox Street is the main road with restaurants and shops. Seville Quarter has bars with live music in old buildings. The area has Spanish influence from when Spain controlled Florida. Naval Air Station is a working military base with the Blue Angels stationed here. The National Naval Aviation Museum is free and huge with historic planes hanging from the ceiling. The Blue Angels practice over the beach on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings when they’re in town.

Pensacola Bay and Perdido Key

Pensacola Bay Bridge connects the city to the beach. The bay has calmer water for kayaking and paddleboarding. Fort Barrancas overlooks the bay with views. Perdido Key west of Pensacola Beach is even quieter and less developed. The beaches stretch for miles with few people. Johnson Beach is part of the national seashore. Big Lagoon State Park has trails and camping. The key feels more remote than Pensacola Beach.

Food is fresh Gulf seafood, grouper sandwiches, oysters, key lime pie, Southern cooking.
